The Koran tells us that:
(1) Isa (Jesus) is a greater prophet than Muhammad.
(2) Muslims should consult the Christians.
(3) Muslims should read the Bible.
Re: (1) – Isa (Jesus) is a greater prophet than Muhammad.
(1.1.) Isa was born of a virgin (see Sura 3: 42-47).
(1.2.) He was called the Word of God (see Sura 4: 171, 3:45).
(1.3.) He was sinless (see Sura 19:16-21).
(1.4.) He performed miracles (see Sura 3:49 and 5:110).
(1.5.) He will return again (see Sura 43: 61).
~ The Koran does not say these things about Muhammad. My questions is this why is Jesus so unique? Is Jesus greater than Muhammad? I ask because Muhammad did not perform any miracles. He was not born of a virgin, he begged Allah for forgiveness … etc.
Re: (2) – Muslims should consult the Christians
Sura 10:94 plainly states “If you are in doubt about as to what we have revealed unto you, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before you. The truth has indeed come to you from your Lord.”
Re: (3) – Muslims should read the Bible
(3.1.) The Koran often praises the Bible. See Sura 6:115, 10:64 and 6:34. So if the Bible is praised by the Koran, then Muslims ought to read it.
(3.2.) The Koran in fact even speaks of the Bible as being on par with the Koran.
For example, Sura 2:136 says “Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma’il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them.’”
Or consider Sura 4:136: “O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, and Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray.”
Note also what is being said in Sura 4:136. It is claiming that the Scriptures that came before Allah’s Messenger – the Bible – came from Allah. If this is so that Muslim’s must regard that the Bible is God’s Word.
See also Sura 29:46.
Conclusion: If the Bible is God’s Word and on par with the Koran, then it ought to be read.
(3.3.) The Bible has not been corrupted because Allah has preserved it, so it ought to be read.
~ Muslims claim that the Bible is corrupted. However, does the Koran make any such claim? It does not. Muslim’s might try to proof-text support for this from the Koran, but these upon closer examination, the proof-texts fail.
On the other hand, the Koran claims that its text cannot undergo any changes because Allah preserves it and prevents people from changing its words. See Sura 10:64, 6:34, 6:114-115, and Sura 50:29. Now as mentioned previously the Koran teaches that the Bible is God’s Word (see (3.2.) above). If this is so then why think that Allah was and is unable to preserve the Bible also?
Conclusion: The Bible has not been corrupted and so ought to be read by Muslims.
