The Sun, the Moon and the Stars:
Speaking of Josephs dream … in it the Sun is symbolic of his father, the moon, his mum, and the 11 stars – his brothers. You will find this sort of imagery to be true often in the Bible, esp. the Psalms. Here is whats interesting … the moon derives all of its light from the sun. That is to say, all of the light that a moon gives off comes from the Sun. “A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.” ~I Cor. 11v.7
Observations on Dreams:
Joseph has a dream that his father and mother and his brothers will bow down to him.
“Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers.
“Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time
the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”
Yet his mother, Rachel – the moon – had already passed away.
Paul had a vision …
“During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” ~Acts 16v.9
So they went to Macedonia, and lo and behold ! What did the Macedonian man look like ?
“On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where … we sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth…” ~Acts 16v.13,14
– Like a woman … Oye Ve !
My point – Even in the Bible, dreams & visions are not meant to signify something exact – but something general. Their purpose is to get a point across – not to make an exact point. I personally think that people (Xtns) who go around paying attention to their dreams today, and are trying interpret them are … like … a little off upstairs. Shaky stuff. I am very skeptical of them.
This also fits the pattern I mentioned below.
1. Joseph is told something via a dream by God.
2. It never seems to come about.
3. Joseph, I am sure yet still did not doubt it.
